SAN BENITO — Residents in need of WIC services are going to have to wait until next week due to a new system upgrade.
Cameron County WIC clinics are closed and will not reopen until April 30.
The supplemental nutrition program for Women, Infants and Children will soon be working under a new system that will provide better functionality in the form of quick client transfers, fewer forms and client files.
The new Texas Integrated Network system has been a decade in the making and will allow agencies to keep files electronically and provide added benefits to clients.
Clinics throughout the county have closed shop for the week to train employees on the new upgraded system to better serve their clients.
According to WIC Director Claudia Soto, all WIC employees will be up to date on the new system by the end of the week.
“All WIC staff have been attending a mandatory training to learn how to utilize the new paperless system which will replace the multitude of paper forms used currently,” Soto said.
The new paperless system, Texas Integrated Network, will allow the agencies to file client information electronically.
Starting Monday, the new system will provide clients automatic appointment reminders, new growth charts and shopping lists.
In an email, Soto said WIC is committed to helping parents create amazing children and providing benefits to eligible women, new mothers and children under the age of 5.
