SOUTH PADRE ISLAND — Bring all your electronic waste and regular recycling to the Island’s one-stop Earth Day Electronics Recycling Event.
“This is a great opportunity to properly dispose of your electronics,” said Victor Baldovinos, SPI environmental health director. “The community will benefit from this event to reduce waste and the negative impact that irresponsible disposal may cause.”
The city of South Padre Island Environmental Health Services Department, Republic Services and RDA Technologies are hosting the event tomorrow at the Community Center.
The goal for EHSD and their partners is to provide an opportunity for safe and responsible recycling of obsolete, unused or unwanted electronics.
According to Evergreen Environmental, nearly 100 percent of e-waste is recyclable. Unfortunately, most of the e-waste produced globally is not properly recycled.
Proper e-waste recycling recovers many nonrenewable resources and prevents thousands of toxic chemicals from seeping into the soil and water. Chemicals such as lead, cadmium and mercury found in e-waste are extremely hazardous.
