Softball notes: 32-6A playoff picture taking shape heading into regular season finale

With just one game remaining in the regular season, San Benito separated itself from the pack and is in control of its own destiny to win the District 32-6A title.

The Lady Hounds cruised to a 7-1 win Tuesday night against Weslaco High and completed the season sweep against the Lady Panthers. San Benito has now won nine straight and clinched a share of the league crown, and can win the district title outright with a win on Friday at Harlingen High.

The Lady Hounds leaned on a pair of homers by Sarah Garcia and Karina Cisneros. Audrey Huerta, meanwhile, went 3 for 5 while Garcia finished 3 for 4.

Harlingen South: The Lady Hawks regained their swagger with a 6-2 win against a surging Weslaco East club. With Weslaco’s loss to San Benito, South is currently the second seed in the district with an 11-2 mark while Weslaco is in the third spot with a 10-3 mark.

Head coach Elias Martinez also reached career win 500 with the Lady Hawks win. Up next for the Lady Green Birds is their regular season finale at Brownsville Rivera Friday at 7.
