HARLINGEN — A 63-year-old woman was crossing a street in motorized wheelchair when she was struck by a car.
The woman was in a hospital in serious condition after the crash early yesterday morning.
Police said the driver of the vehicle was intoxicated.
The crash happened about 2:25 a.m. yesterday in the 1800 block of South 77 Sunshine Strip.
When police arrived, they found that the woman was attempting to cross the street in a motorized wheelchair when she was struck by a gray passenger vehicle.
She was taken to Valley Baptist Medical Center, where she was in serious condition.
The driver of the car has been identified only as a 23-year-old woman from Harlingen.
She was arrested at the scene and “is being charged with intoxication assault with a motor vehicle,” police said in a statement.
