Golf tourney to raise funds for scholarships

SAN BENITO — Interested in a game of golf?

The San Benito school district will host its first-ever Superintendent’s Golf Tournament.

Funds raised for the tournament will go toward creating scholarships for high school seniors.

Athletics coordinator Ramiro Partida said the district is looking for team sponsorships of three members each for the tournament.

The event will run all day Saturday, March 24 and the district will provide teams with a breakfast and a lunch after the tournament.

Players will be competing for cash prizes and will also be entered into a raffle for donated door prizes.

Partida said the event is an opportunity for district officials to get together and take part in a fun outdoor activity.

“We have two goals with this,” Partida said. “The first is for the morale and to get our school district together and the other is for the kids.”

Partida said Superintendent Nate Carman was looking for a way to raise funds for the superintendent scholarship.

“We thought golf would be the best way to do that,” Partida said.

There are different levels of sponsorships that will allow local businesses to take part in the event.

But the event is not just limited to corporations.

“We’ve had a couple of corporate and business teams but we also have individuals sponsoring a team signup,” Partida said.

The district is expecting to host 108 players from 36 different teams.

Partida said they aren’t there yet but they hope to be soon.

He said the district has set a goal to raise $30,000 from the golf tournament.

“That’s a high goal but that’s where we’re shooting at,” Partida said.
