City to host annual trash bash

SAN BENITO — With the flowers blooming and warmer weather on the horizon, spring is just around the corner.

And with the spring comes spring cleaning and the city of San Benito is ready to take your garbage.

Residents are being encouraged to declutter their lives during the annual trash bash Saturday, March 24.

Those with proof of residency, such as a water bill, will have the opportunity to drop off all their unwanted stuff including appliances, furniture, brush, fabric and plastic at the City Service Center.

The event is free and encourages residents, businesses and other community members to dispose of waste properly to keep the city clean and waste free.

Residents will also be allowed to drop off old tires to be disposed of at no cost.

However, construction materials, paint and chemicals will not be accepted during the bash.

Also, appliances with Freon such as freezers and refrigerators will not be accepted.

Residents are strongly encouraged to contact local recycling centers to find alternative ways to dispose of those items.

A representative from the City Service Center said the bash is an opportunity for residents, especially the elderly to dispense of materials they are not normally able to.

The event helps citizens clean out clutter in their home and get rid of large items they normally don’t know what to do with.

Residents unable to make it on the day of the event can visit the City Service Center during the week between business hours.
