BROWNSVILLE — Incumbent Cameron County Judge Eddie Treviño Jr., a Democrat, will face former Secretary of State Carlos H. Cascos, a Republican, in the November general election.
Unofficial final results indicate Treviño received 11,287 votes in yesterday’s Democratic Party primary election, to Robert Sanchez’s 3,674.
“First of all, I want to thank each and every person who came out to support us once again in the Democratic primary, and those that braved the weather to make sure their voice was heard,” Treviño said.
And he’s asking voters to continue to support him in his race against Cascos, who is a former county judge, county commissioner and longtime politician in Cameron County.
“I want to ask for everybody’s continued support as we continue the election battle all the way to November,” Treviño said. “And I’m looking forward to continue to encourage everyone to support me in my race and to continue to serve as county judge.”
Treviño has touted his one-year in office as a success, saying he’s fostered a positive working environment, and that economic development, infrastructure improvements and new construction have been solid.
Cascos filed for election to run as a Republican in late November, saying that since he arrived back in the Rio Grande Valley in 2017 after resigning as Secretary of State, he’d been getting inquiries into whether he would run again.
“I’ve got a few years left in me and thought, ‘I’ll give it another shot,’” Cascos said in December.
