School to host ‘color run’ health fair

SAN BENITO — Run through a cloud of rainbow powder this weekend.

San Benito’s Miller Jordan Middle School will be hosting it’s first-ever Spring Health Fair and Color Run tomorrow.

The health fair will feature numerous vendors and booths by local agencies such as H-E-B and TSTC.

The fair will follow a mile run where participants will finish the race covered in colorful powder.

Miller Jordan counselor Kathy Lanoy said the event will provide an array of health information and serve as a fundraiser for the school’s student organizations.

“This will be officially the first fair and color run that we will host,” Lanoy said.

Lanoy said the idea for the event originated with the principal, but many heads have been working to make the event possible.

The campus had a similar event scheduled for last year in April but had to cancel it due to state testing.

The school has recruited more than 20 local agencies to hold a booth at the fair including the San Benito Fire Department, Extreme Jump, TSTC and a mental health clinic.

“People from the community are coming and giving their time for this event,” Lanoy said. “It’s really any info booth you can think of that will be there.”

In addition to local vendors and agency booths, students will be selling food and drinks to raise funds for their organizations.

The event is open to the public and participants can sign up for the color run on the day of the event.
