The National Weather Service says the rain will stay around the rest of the day and increase in strength.
The showers will continue throughout the day and few thunderstorms are possible. There is also the possibility of heavy downpours and cloud to ground lightning.
Forecasters say the rain and storms are part of a stationary front that remains just south of the Rio Grande Valley.
