Kids are getting fit

HARLINGEN — Want to dunk the police chief?

Come to the Junior League’s Harlingen Kid-Fit 2018 tomorrow and run an obstacle course and you can do just that.

“It’s a community festival,” said Maru De La Paz, a member of the Junior League and chairperson of Kid-Fit.

The Junior League is organizing the yearly event in partnership with the city, the school district and Footworks.

“We start with a one-mile run, and throughout the morning we’re going to have different activities going on,” she said.

Those activities will include “Kids in the Kitchen” in which children will learn simple recipes they can prepare quickly and easily.

“On stage, we have different groups from the school district and throughout the community who will be performing on the stage every 15 to 30 minutes depending on the show,” she said.

Those shows will include musical and dance performances as well as skits.

“We’re going to have a fun zone and we have about 45 to 50 community vendors as well as nonprofit organizations,” she said. “They are going to be there providing information for the community. So this is educational.”
