SAN BENITO — Does your student have questions about a career they might be interested in?
The San Benito High School Library and Family and Community Engagement will be hosting a Career Lunch Series every Wednesday at the high school library.
Parents and students are encouraged to stop by and meet with professionals to learn about career options.
Every week, a new career will be featured with professionals available to answer any questions and go over possible pathways to getting into that field.
San Benito High School librarian Esther Quintanilla said parental specialist Adriana Guerra wanted to collaborate on something for the students.
Quintanilla figured other departments offer help getting into college, but students needed to know what path to take once enrolled.
“I am always offering a variety of library programming for our students,” Quintanilla said.
Quintanilla said the library will provide speakers in career fields that students have expressed interest in and will provide some clarity for the students when it comes to the future.
“In high school you’re still lost and you don’t know what you’re going to do,” Quintanilla said.
This past week, the lunch series held its first event that featured the Martinez Dental Group that discussed the oral hygiene industry.
More than 50 students stopped by to inquire about the field and how to obtain a degree in dentistry.
Quintanilla said the series aims to provide students with options.
Quintanilla said parents are encouraged to stop by and discuss ways to support their children in their endeavors.
“It’s anything to help the child achieve their dreams,” Quintanilla said.
Counselors will be available during the series events to offer suggestions on what classes students should focus on depending on the career or industry they are hoping to get into.
The series will continue until the end of the school year.
Quintanilla said the library is already looking ahead to next year to continue the event.
Schedules will be released a month in advance for parents and students to view.
Next, the San Benito Police Department will stop by followed by the San Benito Fire Department.
