Girls basketball notes: Let the second season begin

With the regular season all wrapped up, it’s time to take a look at the girls basketball bi-district playoff matchups that have been worked out.

In Class 2A, Santa Maria finished the season with a record of 26-2 overall and an unblemished 8-0 District 32-2A mark. The Lady Cougars will now look to extend its win streak against Ben Bolt on Tuesday at San Isidro.

In Class 3A, the season might be over for some, but for Lyford and Edinburg IDEA Quest there is still one game remaining. Due to inclement weather earlier in the season, Lyford and Quest had to reschedule to this Friday.

Santa Rosa, meanwhile, clinched a share of the 32-3A title and is now waiting to see if they have to share the crown with Lyford.

If Lyford defeats Quest then the Lady Warriors and the Lady Bulldogs could play a seeding playoff game with the winner possibly facing CC London or Banquete in the bi-district round.

In Class 4A, both Rio Hondo and La Feria finished in second place with a 11-3 District 32-4A records. However, with Rio Hondo holding the tiebreaker, the Lady Bobcats grabbed the No. 2 seed and will play Aransas Pass in the opening round sometime next week.

The La Feria Lionettes took the third seed and will face Orange Grove at 8 p.m. Monday at Kingsville High School.

Finally in Class 6A, the San Benito Lady Greyhounds clinched a share of the District 32-6A title with a 62-55 win over Harlingen on Tuesday evening. With the win the Lady Hounds grabbed the top seed and will play Edinburg Vela at home on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Harlingen, meanwhile, picked up the third seed and will play at 7:30 p.m. on Monday at PSJA North.
