HARLINGEN — Wanna make sure the family kitty has all his shots?

Bring him and the dog to Paws for a Cause Rabies Clinic this Saturday. The clinic at the Humane Society of Harlingen will be offering rabies and other vaccinations at a reduced cost.

“We give opportunities to low income families for animals that will never see a vet, to make it affordable for them,” said Misael Lerma, manager of the Humane Society at 1106 Markowsky.

He said the Humane Society hopes that once families get their animals vaccinated against rabies, parvo, distemper and other maladies, they’ll be encouraged to come back. The clinics are held the first Saturday of each month.

“We educate them about heartworms, flea and tick medication, and the vaccinations that their animals require,” he said.

The Humane Society will also test animals for heartworms and offer heartworm medication as well as treatments for fleas and ticks.

“It’s important because it is the law to vaccinate your animal against rabies every year,” Lerma said. “We’re being compliant to city ordinance, and this is what we’re doing to make it affordable for the people and for the benefit of the animal.”

The clinic will also provide microchipping in compliance with city ordinance.
