Parts of Rio Grande Valley experiencing steady snow

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning until noon for Hidalgo County.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning until noon for Hidalgo County.

There is a possibility of moderate to locally heavy snow for much of the lower Rio Grande Valley.

Some locations across the northern Ranchlands have picked up 2 to 4 inches of snow with localized higher amounts, according to the National Weather Service.

Between now and 10 a.m. the snow will peak in the Lower Valley, officials with the National Weather Service in Brownsville said, as the core of the cold air meets with the upper level disturbance moving by.

Precipitation will continue through much of the morning hours with mostly snowfall expected. In addition to the wintry precipitation, dangerous wind chills will remain possible through noon. Expect wind chills to range from 35 to 25 degrees.
