RAYMONDVILLE — Police are searching for the driver in a hit-and-run accident that critically injured a cyclist.
A local convenience store camera captured an image of a man who could be a person of interest in the case, Police Chief Uvaldo Zamora said yesterday.
Zamora said he is searching for the suspect whose vehicle hit Ruben Serna, believed to be 56 years old, while he rode a bicycle Saturday morning.
Serna remained in critical condition at Valley Baptist Medical Center, Terri Retana, the hospital’s spokeswoman, said late yesterday afternoon.
“He’s still in pretty bad shape,” Zamora said. “We’re hoping he pulls through.”
Zamora said investigators are following leads in the case.
“We’re talking to a few people. Some are witnesses — if they saw or heard anything,” Zamora said. “Nothing has panned out so far.”
Investigators are searching for two pickup trucks that were pulling boats at the time of the accident, Zamora said.
He described one truck as a “light-colored Explorer” while the other is only described as a pickup truck.
The suspect’s vehicle hit Serna while he rode his bicycle on the shoulder of the road in front of the Otis Klar Head Start center on East FM 186 about 7 a.m. Saturday, Zamora said.
Serna, believed to be from Houston, was living in Raymondville, where he is believed to have been working at an area ranch, Zamora said.
