Community offers Thanksgiving meals to help the needy

LA FERIA — For more than two decades the La Feria community has come together to offer the people in need a Thanksgiving meal.

And nothing has changed.

This year marks the 25th annual Feast of Sharing Community Thanksgiving Dinner coming up in La Feria at William B. Green Junior High, 501 North Canal St.

“It’s going to be Thanksgiving Day and we are going to be serving at 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.,” said Alma Martinez, event organizer. “We’re going to give out 1,600 plates for needy families from La Feria, Santa Maria, Santa Rosa or whoever shows up.”

More than 50 turkeys will be cooked, sliced and passed out with all the trimmings.

Organizers are expecting to feed hundreds and multiple families in need of a good Thanksgiving meal.

Martinez said this year many community organizations, community leaders, churches and local businesses teamed up to gather enough food to make a positive impact on Thanksgiving.

People are expected to wait in a long line that could stretch outside and around the gym as families wait to grab enough Thanksgiving plates to meet their family size.

Families will be able to pick up the food and go.

“People can tell us how many members in their family and we will prepare the plates and give it to them,” Martinez said.
