RAYMONDVILLE — Longtime City Commissioner Zeke Cavazos’ seat is up for grabs.
City commissioners have called a Feb. 3 special election to fulfill Cavazos’ four-year term.
A week after filing began, no candidate has applied to run, City Secretary Delma Garza said yesterday.
Last May, Cavazos, who died Oct. 9 after a battle with cancer, had won his fifth term to the commission’s Place 4 seat.
The election, which Willacy County will oversee, will cost the city about $10,000, City Manager Eleazar Garcia said.
Filing deadline is Dec. 4.
Cavazos, a former principal of Myra Green Middle School, had served on the commission since May 2001.
