Former Brownsville fire chief surrenders

Law enforcement officers are at the residence of former Brownsville Fire Chief Carlos Elizondo.

Former Brownsville fire chief Carlos Elizondo surrendered at the Cameron County District Attorney’s office this afternoon.

Elizondo was escorted to the DA’s office by his attorney’s Noe Garza and Victor Ramirez this afternoon.

Police said a warrant had been issued for Elizondo charging him with felony theft.

Minutes before Elizondo turned himself over to DA’s Office, Brownsville police dispatchers put out a brief lookout for Elizondo.

The lookout lasted for about a minute and was canceled when police were told Elizondo had turned himself over to county authorities.

It is unknown what case the warrant is linked to. The District Attorney’s Office is expected to release a statement this afternoon.
