Market Days shopping extravaganza this Saturday

HARLINGEN — Two new vendors added to the Downtown Market Days list have a lot to offer the crowd of shoppers this Saturday.

Gotham Comixs owner Andy Alexander plans to have many boxed back- issue comic books at half off.

He said a booth and the comic book shop will be open off Commerce.

Some of the boxed back-issue comics consist of Batman, Spider-Man, Punisher, Catwoman and many more.

“Our clients are Baby Boomers and X Gens,” Alexander said. “They were readers as kids, and as adults they are collectors.”

Alexander opened his comic book store in Harlingen 26 years ago. His first comic he can remember his father giving him was an X-Men No. 1 issue.

It may be one of the comics on display for sale.

The Market Days event normally attracts hundreds of shoppers of all ages.

Shoppers will be able to browse the deals, and dance their heart out between shopping for collectibles, antiques and more.

“I’m going to have the bar open, live music and dancing during the Market Days hours,” said Edward Molina, Jackson Street Event Center manager. “I already got bookings for live bands.”

He said music artists are calling him because they want to play during Market Days.

On Saturday, Two Wheel Drive will be performing at the Jackson Street Event Center.

The band plays 50s, 60s and country music.

“I tried this in August, and I had people in here dancing,” Molina said. “They said you need to do this every time.”
