Leaonardo Carrizales victorious at All Star Fight Night 4

Brownsville super welterweight Leonardo “El Ruso” Carrizales couldn’t help but be pretty happy after his victory against fellow Brownsville fighter Miguel Morales on the undercard of the All Star Fight Night 4 boxing show on Sept. 22.

He knocked down his opponent three times, including twice in the opening round, while giving a dominating performance.

Carrizales improved to 5-3-1 with two knockouts after winning his four-round bout against Morales on a decisive unanimous decision (39-34, 39-34, 38-35) at Brownsville’s Amigoland Convention Center.

It was a satisfying result for “El Ruso,” especially since he was coming off losses in his last two fights that took place out of the Rio Grande Valley in December 2016 and in June.

“It’s like I always say, it’s because of the hard work of my team and the support of my family that I’m able to do what I’m doing,” Carrizales said after the victory against Morales. “Because of them, I’m very serious about what I’m doing.

“I thank the fans, too,” he added. “Hopefully as I continue on with my career, they get to know me better. I don’t now when I’ll fight again, but when that opportunity comes, I’ll be ready.”

Carrizales trains with Fidencio Lopez of Brownsville.

Morales (2-12, one KO) was coming off a second-round technical knockout victory against Juan Pina on April 2 in Pharr. Although his record is not all that great, Morales has shown himself to be a boxer who always comes to fight and gives it his all in the ring.

The Valley, and more specifically Brownsville, should be seeing more of Carrizales and Morales in the future.
