She has worked for the city and climbed the ladder of success over the past 10 years.
Now Veronica Flores, 40, is the city of Primera’s newest city administrator. She replaces Javier Mendez, who is now a consultant to the city.
Flores received her training at Vanguard Institute of Technology in 1996, and started with the city soon after she finished school. She started as city administrator July 25 and also holds the duty of city secretary.
Here is a Q & A with the new city administrator.
Q: How have you approached your new duties as the city administrator/secretary?
Being the assistant city administrator for some time, I have become familiar with the duties of this position and have become aware of all the responsibilities it entails.
Q: Is there an issue facing Primera you feel equipped to address?
No, but I believe our Mayor and City commission are doing an exceptional job in addressing any issues the city may have and are dedicated in enhancing the quality of life for our citizens.
Q: How important is it to work collaboratively with the mayor and commission on a plan to move the city forward?
It is very important to work collaboratively with the mayor and city commission because we all need to agree what is best for the city and accomplish what needs to be done.
Q: Did former city administrator Javier Mendez pass along any advice?
Mr. Mendez made sure I was prepared for this position and I have learned that he played a very important part in the City of Primera.
Q: Do you have an open door policy for residents with a need to contact you with concerns?
Yes, any concerns citizens have are welcome to speak with me.
Q: What would you like to tell the community about yourself and experience working for the city?
Although this role may be challenging at times, I will humbly do my best and I am grateful for the opportunity the city has given me.
