HARLINGEN — Weather forecasters have issued a rip current warning for coastal Cameron and Willacy counties through Wednesday morning due to fallout from Hurricane Irma.
National Weather Service forecasters in Brownsville say strong and potentially life-threatening rip currents are possible along gulf-facing beaches due to the high waves generated by Irma, making it dangerous for swimmers and beach-goers even right along the immediate shoreline.
The forecast calls for minor coastal flooding and driving on gulf beaches is discouraged.
Umbrellas and other beach gear set up could be subject to being washed away by high surf, forecasters say.
