Body of San Benito man found in resaca

SAN BENITO — Augustine Andrade, an elderly man, was a regular walker of the Heavin Resaca Trail.

It was ultimately where Andrade was last seen, and where he was found dead yesterday.

San Benito police confirmed on their Facebook page Andrade was dead after firefighters pulled him out of the resaca.

About noon yesterday, the Cameron County medical examiner had pronounced Andrade dead.

San Benito firefighters pulled Andrade out of the resaca near a bridge located near the 500 block of West Expressway 83.

According to reports, Andrade was last seen near the resaca at Heavin Memorial Park near the expressway.

“To be sure he (Andrade) hadn’t fallen in the water, they dragged it this morning (yesterday),” Mayor Ben Gomez said.

“Unfortunately, they found Andrade’s body.”

He said Andrade had been reported missing two days earlier.

Police followed multiple leads and narrowed their search down to where people said Andrade was last seen.

The police asked for the community to say a prayer for Andrade and his family as they go through this difficult time.

The police also stated on Facebook to respect the family and their wishes to not be contacted.

“It’s horrible,” Gomez said about Andrade’s death. “My prayers go out the (Andrade) family,” Gomez said.
