RIO HONDO — Residents will soon have access to city business in the palm of their hand.
“We are reorganizing our website to put more current information with pictures and to direct residents to pay their water bills online,” said Ben Medina, Rio Hondo city administrator. “We want to be as transparent as possible.”
Medina said the website will be fully functional with city information for anyone to access at home or on the go this month.
Some of the important information that will be available online for residents to access is the city budget, City Commission agendas and minutes.
The website is currently live with links to the utility department payment center and city library catalog.
The city is under the direction of a consultant offering the web redesign services.
“We are going to have a website that is mobile friendly,” said Gustavo Olivares, Rio Hondo mayor. “People are going to be able to find city programs a lot easier than it was before.”
He said redesigning the city website is another rebuilding project the city has in town.
“We’re doing our bridge system, our water plant and sewer plant is in the process of being re-done,” Olivares said. “The downtown is being added sidewalks, drainage and our website is moving in the same direction.”
He said the website will be a source showcasing how the city of Rio Hondo is getting better.
He continued that it has been the plan of the City Commission to provide a city website that is easier to access city information.
“Honestly we are moving in the right direction,” Olivares said. “We need to be transparent with the community and we need to be able to showcase our projects, investments and budget.”
Olivares said the new website will provide easy access for residents to pay their water bill online and access basic city information.
“The changes to our website will allow residents to have more access to city information,” Olivares said.
“Having the ability to place our projects on the city website will make the public aware of what is going on around town.”
