SAN BENITO — Not only does the San Benito School District have a new district logo, but it also now has a student-designed logo for its long-range goals.
The “P-20 logo” was designed by Saul Soundara, a Class of 2017 graduate of San Benito High School.
His logo is not to be mistaken with the district’s new “San Benito Schools” logo, which is also part of the district’s P-20 Re-Imagine Goals.
P-20 is education from pre-kindergarten to graduate school. It covers everything from curriculum, post college readiness and career readiness.
Soundara’s logo has significant meaning because it aims to remind everyone that San Benito schools intend to be the gold standard in education.
When the strategic plan was implemented last year, under P-20, one of the main goals was to develop a logo that would distinguish P-20 from the rest of the goals.
“SBCISD will create a community network with local governments, institutions of higher education and community organizations to eliminate barriers for post secondary success,” the plan states.
The logo tagline, “The Gold Standard of Education,” will be used on all district publications.
To begin this journey to the P-20 logo, committee members met with high school marketing instructor Roland Garcia.
Soundara was in his marketing class.
“It was a tough challenge to meet the expectations, but we are glad we got to this point,” Garcia said when talking about the logo and Soundara at last week’s school board meeting.
Soundara, who plans to attend Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Oklahoma, this fall as a marketing major, competed against classmates for the final design.
Soundara has definitely left his mark on his senior year.
The logo will be a major part of the strategic plan and a staple for the San Benito school district for many years to come.
“Obviously, higher education is something we all believe in,” Garcia said. “This will allow the students to gain a new vision for academic excellence, starting at the earliest grades.”
