ResacaFest set for July 1

SAN BENITO — ResacaFest, San Benito’s largest event, will be held here Saturday July 1.

The sprit of America will be celebrated with a day of live music, food and family-styled fun.

Fireworks over the Resaca will cap off the evening.

ResacaFest is San Benito’s largest festival and has grown over the years to include more activities and an expanded fireworks display.

Two stages of entertainment are scheduled to keep the activities moving during this free community event.

The public is invited to participate in the festival at W.H. Heavin Memorial Park at 705 N. Bowie St. from 4 to 11 p.m.

Other activities that day will include live music and children’s events, which will feature a carnival, children’s games, Patriotic Costume Dog and Owner contest, face-painting, food booths and a beer garden for adults on the event grounds.

The music will feature country, classic, pop and Tejano in a continuous venue until 11 p.m.

City officials have added new entertainment this year. While at ResacaFest, the community will get the chance to see a car and truck show.

Included will be hot-rods, classics, imports, domestics and trucks. Prizes will be awarded to the top three entries in each category. Car clubs are encouraged to enter as a group. Admission is free of charge to enter and participants must be at least 21 years of age, or have a parent or guardian sign the registration waiver.

Those interested in registering their rides for show are encouraged to call 956-244-6561. The rules and registration details are on the city website. Trophies will be given out to the first, second and third place winners of the car show.

ResacaFest 2017 offers something for the little ones also. Small carnival rides will be available for children’s entertainment. Games and contests will be conducted to keep them busy.
