Laguna Vista Notes

Water line and street improvements

LAGUNA VISTA — At Wednesday’s meeting, the Laguna Madre Water District Board awarded a contract for water improvements on Beach Blvd.

The project will commence immediately and should be completed within 120 days, said City Manager Rolando Vela. The existing 4-inch main water lines, on Beach Blvd, will be upgraded to 8 inches, significantly enhancing water pressure in the neighborhood.

Earlier this month, the town was awarded earmarked funds for the reconstruction of Beach Blvd.

“We will wait until these water line improvements are completed before we initiate these street improvements,” Vela said.

The town council also awarded a contract to G&T Paving, LLC, in the amount of $178,307, for street improvements to Orange Lane from Hibiscus to FM 510. The town secured grant funds for this project.

The town went out for sealed bids in accordance with requirements set forth by the grant agency, Texas Department of Agriculture. The town will administer this grant in-house.

Digital ticket writers

LAGUNA VISTA — Last week, the Laguna Vista Police Department started to use digital ticket writers.

These ticket writers will enable the officers to spend more time protecting and patrolling and less time in the office as they no longer need to manually enter citations into the system.

The town council approved the purchase of the digital ticket writers at a cost of $23,000, which includes four ticket writers, three printers, and the paper for printing, in this year’s budget.

Independence Day Parade and Picnic – and Run/Walk

LAGUNA VISTA — Town officials are working on the Independence Day Parade and picnic scheduled for July 1.

The parade will start at 5:30 p.m. at the Fire Station. Following the parade, live music, children’s activities and food will be provided at Roloff Park from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

“We are encouraging the public to participate in this parade,” said City Manager Rolando Vela.

“Decorate your golf carts, vehicles, boat/trailers, bikes, etc. with red, white and blue. Dress up also in these patriotic colors. Please be at the Fire Station no later than 5 p.m.”

Following the parade, the celebration at Roloff Park, from 6 to 10 p.m., will include:

– Hector Guzman and the All nighters will be performing

– Children’s activities and food

– Blankets and lawn chairs are welcome

The town is now accepting requests from people who would like to be a vendor at this event.

– If you are preparing food to sell at this event, you will need to secure a health permit from the county health department. The cost of this one-time permit is $25. Nonprofit organizations are not charged this fee.

– The town does not provide booths. In the event you will need one, the town can arrange arrangements to secure one for you. You, however, will need to pay for this rental cost of the booth.

– If you don’t need a booth and would like to sell, the town will allow you to do so provided that you bring your own tables, extension cords, etc.

This year, the town is adding a family-filled Independence Day Run/Walk to this celebration starting at 7 a.m. at Roloff Park.
