Local businesses partner to showcase goods and services

MERCEDES — Elias Gonzalez organized a cool car show for the community to scope out in town tomorrow.

“There will be lowriders, custom minis, exotics and all types of vehicles,” Gonzalez said.

The Rolling Big Car Club will be showcasing their wheels at the official grand opening of the Storage Depot plaza located in Mercedes, where more than 20 stores are open for business. There will be moon jumps for kids and prizes for the public to win.

Gonzalez, 41, owner of Mellow Times Smoke Shop, and the other new vendors at Storage Depot want to let everyone know they are open for business.

“A lot of people don’t know that we are open,” Gonzalez said. “People are just finding out that the plaza is open.”

He said there is going to be free refreshments, tacos and hot dogs for people who attend the celebration.

“We have all types of business owners here trying to make a living,” Gonzalez said. “I think this is a good location. We needed a little plaza to get us going.”

He said he has had customers from as far as Edcouch-Elsa, La Villa, La Feria and Harlingen come by and visit his store.

Alba Rodriguez, Storage Depot district manager, said, “I call the event a carnival… all the stores are participating and there are going to be raffles, food and free giveaways.

“The whole city of Mercedes is more than welcome to stop by and visit us,” Rodriguez said. “We have a snack shop, clothing shop and many different types of businesses.”
