Raymondville school tax may decrease

RAYMONDVILLE — The tax rate might be dropping soon.

Today, the Raymondville school board will a public hearing into the district’s proposal to cut the property tax rate from $1.32 to $1.31 per valuation.

The proposal is part of plan to leverage more state funding.

Officials are calling a September election to ask voters to allow the district to move 13 cents from its interest and sinking fund to its maintenance and operating fund to leverage an additional $1 million a year during an eight-year period, Christy Gonzalez, the district’s chief financial officer.
