Harlingen police arrest two women in theft cases

HARLINGEN — Harlingen police arrested a woman they say stole items from a local grocery store.

At approximately 7:49 p.m. on May 17, officers responded to the H-E-B at 1213 S. Commerce Street regarding a theft in progress.

Upon arrival, an officer made contact with an employee. The employee reported that a woman later identified as Jocelyn Garcia, 19, had concealed store merchandise inside her purse and had attempted to exit the store without paying for the items, according to police.

Garcia was confronted and the beef briskets and miscellaneous items valued at $102.32 were recovered.

Garcia was arrested on a Class B misdemeanor charge of theft.

Her bond was set at $1,500.

HARLINGEN — Harlingen police arrested a San Benito woman who they say stole hundreds of dollars worth of merchandise from a local store.

At approximately 5:17 p.m. on May 19, an officer responded to the Target on Dixieland Road in reference to a theft.

The responding officer made contact with an employee, who told police a woman had been detained after exiting the store with $832.30 in store merchandise without paying for it. The merchandise was recovered and returned to the store.

The woman, who initially identified herself as “Norma Ramires,” was placed under arrest and transported to the City Jail for processing, police said.

During the booking process, the woman was correctly identified as Minerva Torres Weaver, 51, of San Benito, who was also wanted on a municipal court warrant, police said.

She was arrested on two Class A misdemeanor charges of theft and failing to identify-fugitive.

Her bond was set at $10,000.
