SBHS student thespians fare well

Founded in 1927, The University Interscholastic League’s One-Act Play (OAP) Contest is the largest high school play production contest or play festival in the world. More than 14,000 Texas high school students in more than 1,200 plays participate in over 300 contests.

For the District 32-6A Zone B OAP Contest, San Benito High School’s “This is a Test” was directed by Theatre Arts teacher and director Derek McElyea. Individual honors included: Best Actress – Natali Hernandez in “This is a Test;” All Star Cast – Aries Saldivar, San Benito High School; Honorable Mention All Star Cast (Ensemble Award) – Ashlie Fuentes, Cordylia Ochoa, and Kayla Martell; and Tech Award – Andrea Hernandez.

The San Benito OAP cast included: Natali Hernandez, Viviana Garza, Guillermo Hernandez, Steven Cortez, Ariel Dickens, Ashlie Fuentes, Gigi Lynn, Luis Mares, Kayla Martell, Juanita Montez, Cordylia Ochoa, Aries Saldivar, Laura Torres, Ismael Treviño, Damion Valdovinos, Keila Valdez, Rudy Zamaripa, Billy Weaver, and Samantha Sum; and the OAP crew included Andrea Hernandez, Caitlyn Lopez, Bianca Alverado, and Art Martinez.
