Police asking for help in finding hit-and-run suspect

HARLINGEN — Police are still searching for the driver who struck and killed a woman last Thursday night.

The incident happened along the 1100 block of South 77 Sunshine Strip around 10 p.m.

When they arrived, officers found 57-year-old Natividad Chavez of Harlingen lying in the middle of the roadway.

Witnesses told police Chavez was struck by a light colored passenger car. They say the driver failed to stop and drove north on Business 77 before turning east on Tyler Avenue.

The victim was taken to an area hospital where she later died.

Police say debris left at the scene suggests the car was a white 2013 to 2016 Ford Fusion. It sustained front end damage during the collision.

Police said it is crucial that they find the person responsible.
