Hit-and-run accident on Business 77 kills Harlingen woman

HARLINGEN — Police are looking for the hit-and-run driver who struck and killed a woman on Business 77 Thursday night.

Police say the accident happened around 10 p.m. in the 1100 block of South 77 Sunshine Strip. That where they found 57-year-old Natividad Chavez of Harlingen lying in the middle of the road.

Witnesses told police Chavez was struck by a light colored passenger car. They say the driver failed to stop and drove north on Business 77 before turning east on Tyler Avenue.

The victim was taken to an area hospital where she later died.

Police say debris left at the scene suggests the car was a white 2013-2016 Ford Fusion. It sustained front end damage during the collision.
