Lyford begins its playoff journey tonight as they host Corpus Christi London at 7 in a best-of-three series.
After a perfect 9-0 district record, the Lady Dogs will have a clean slate and have an opportunity to advance to the area round for the first time under coach Joey Rios. Last season the Lady Dogs fell in the bi-district round to Bishop.
“Were excited to be in the playoffs,” said Rios. “We have an opportunity to host a playoff game and our girls are excited. We talk about what we can control, and that’s our attitude and effort so it’s important for us to go out and do the little things right. The girls know how to pick each other up and have faced adversity throughout the season.”
Game 2 will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Corpus Christi’s Cabaniss Field. Game 3, if needed, will follow 30 minutes after Game 2.
“We have a good home and road record so traveling wont’ bother us. It’s something we have done before, and the kids will have time to travel and get ready,” said Rios. “My biggest thing is us playing together. We’re a family and we plan on giving it our best shot. We have a couple of veterans on the team and this isn’t their first rodeo so they understand that. I told them our records get thrown out the window and it’s a new season.”
LADY KATS IN 0-1 HOLE: Raymondville got an early start to their playoff series against Orange Grove and the Lady Kats fell in the series opener 3-1 on Wednesday. They will now shift their focus to Game 2, which is set for 5:30 p.m. Friday at Orange Grove. Game 3, if needed, is set for 30 minutes after the second game.
LADY CATS READY TO GO: Rio Hondo enters the playoffs with high hopes, after an impressive march to their fourth consecutive district title. The Lady Cats will play Rockport-Fulton in a one-game playoff at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Alice High school.
