San Benito elections draws hundreds to voting booth

Voters in San Benito appear eager to cast ballots in the municipal and school district elections.

In the first day of early voting on Monday nearly 550 cast ballots in both elections.

The San Benito general election attracted 247 voters to cast ballots for the mayoral and city commission races.

Incumbent Mayor Celeste Sanchez is up against Ben Gomez; for Commissioner, Place 1 Joe F. Rodriguez faces Tony Gonzales; for Commissioner, Place 2 it’s Fernando Mendez Jr., Rene Villafranco and Ricardo Robles Rodriguez; and the special election for Commissioner, Place 4 it’s Pilar Sanchez and Carol Lynn Sanchez.

In the San Benito CISD general election 300 early ballots were cast for the Trustee, Place 4 race of Orlando “Papas” Lopez andChon Lopez Jr.; Trustee, Place 4 race with M.L. Garcia and Mario Silva; Trustee, Place 6 with Oscar Medrano facing Victor Rosas; and Trustee, Place 7 where Joe D. Gonzalez is up against Angel Mendez.

In Rio Hondo, 52 voters cast early ballots in the city election while another 121 voted in the school district election for a total of 173.

And in La Feria, 119 voters cast ballots Monday for the city’s general election.

The elections will be held Saturday, May 6.
