Teen girl found dead near Edinburg

NEAR EDINBURG – The Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a body of a woman found near North Rooth Road and West Chapin Street Friday morning.

NEAR EDINBURG — The body of a teenage girl was found by the side of a rural road Friday morning.

A passerby called authorities after locating the body of a teenage girl just before 8:30 a.m. Friday by the side of the road near the intersection of North 29th and West Schunior Streets, officials said.

When deputies arrived the girl was found between the roadway and the brush, which sits against someone’s private residential property.

Hidalgo County Sheriff Eddie Guerra, who briefly reviewed the scene before addressing members of the media, said the teenager’s death is being treated as a equivocal death.

“The body right now shows no obvious signs of any trauma, or foul play,” Guerra said.

Guerra said the body, which he said is of a 13 to 15-year-old girl, appeared to have only been at the location for a few hours before the passerby discovered her.

The sheriff said that an autopsy had been ordered to determine the cause of death.

At the scene just before noon, in a neatly kempt rural neighborhood that is located near a grade school, investigators walked into the orchard directly behind where the body was found, combing for any clues for the investigation.

The official also said their office had not received any reports of a missing teenager in the area.
