Small craft advisory issued for Laguna Madre

HARLINGEN — The National Weather Service has issued a small craft advisory for vessels in the Laguna Madre from the Port of Brownsville to the Arroyo Colorado all the way to Baffin Bay.

Forecasters caution mariners that high pressure over the northern gulf and low pressure developing today across the southern plains have “increased the pressure gradient over the Texas coastal waters overnight.”

That means very brisk winds from the southeast at 20 to 25 knots.

Winds are expected to increase over the course of the day, and the advisory will remain in place until 7 p.m. tonight.

A small craft advisory means wind speeds of 20 to 33 knots are anticipated, and inexperienced mariners, particularly those in smaller vessels, should avoid going out in these conditions.
