Starr County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a call of a shooting at about 4 p.m. Wednesday on the Rio Grande, near the Fronton area, a small community in Western Starr County, where they came upon two injured men, and a third person who was dead, according to a news release.

The identity of the deceased has not been released.

Sheriff’s officials said U.S. Border Patrol and Texas Department of Public Safety troopers also responded to the call of shots fired.

“According to the victims, they were shot from the Mexican side while they were fishing on a boat,” the release states.

The injuries to the two men, who were not identified, were not life-threatening, the release states.

It is unknown how many shots were fired.

Officials said no other information would be released as the investigation remains ongoing.
