New fire station to be unveiled on Friday

HARLINGEN — The city’s newest fire station is about to go online.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held Friday for the new substation at Stuart Place and Brennaman roads on the city’s west side.

The $1.5 million, 7,000-square-foot fire station is located on a 6.09-acre site and will significantly reduce response times to the rapidly growing area by as much as four or fire minutes.

The new station will have two large truck bays and a response radius of 1.5 miles in all directions, city officials say.

The ceremonies are set for 9:30 a.m. at the fire station.
