San Benito Police: Taco Jardin robber caught

If you’re a customer of Taco Jardin Restaurant you’ll be happy to know the accused weekend robber has been caught.

San Benito Police say Eric Gonzalez was arrested on Wednesday. He was arraigned today by Municipal Judge Benjamin Yudesis who set a bond of $75,000.

Police say Gonzalez walked into the restaurant on Stenger Street Sunday morning at 9:45 to buy a soda and then refused to pay for it. They say he assaulted a cashier and reached into the cash register and took a handful of money.

His picture was captured on the store’s surveillance camera.

Several restaurant customers ran after him and told police he entered the passenger side of an older black Ford Expedition.

Another customer followed the SUV in their vehicle and say the Expedition was seen going toward Harlingen.
