Dogs n’ tunes

HARLINGEN — Does your dog like music?

Does he or she enjoy relaxing on a blanket on a breezy Sunday afternoon and just coast for the day?

Is that something an owner and pet can do together?

You bet it is.

Dogs and their owners have the opportunity to enjoy some live music and food vendors while attending the second annual Dog-On Music Fest.

The event will take place March 5 and is open to the public.

Hosted by the Harlingen Rotary Club in conjunction with the city, the festival will run from 12:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Harlingen Dog Park.

There will be music, entertainment, and food vendor trucks at the afternoon event, said local Rotary member Tre’ Peacock.

Several choices of food from BBQ to sweet treats will be available and the music genres will range from reggae to classic rock.

“The fest is open to the public and it’s to give awareness that we have a dog park,” he said. “It’s a relaxed event for families to bring their dog.”

The park is located at Victor Park on 1601 South M street.

The Bark Park in Harlingen is a place dog owners can unleash their pets and let them run.

It is a large fenced-in area for all dogs.

The park was a project designed by the Harlingen Rotary Club in 2014.

The club donated $15,000 to the city to help fund the park.

Peacock said the city pledged $10,000, the grounds and maintenance upkeep.

Several amenities have been added to the park, such as water fountains for both humans and animals, along with trees.

Dog owners can let their dogs loose for exercise, and to run and have fun.

It’s the one place in town dog owners don’t have to have their pet on a leash.

All dogs are welcome as long as they behave. Owners are to ensure their animals behave properly around other animals and people.

“As long as you’re a responsible pet owner and have a friendly pet, any dog is welcome,” Peacock said.

Bags are provided to pet owners for easy cleanup after their pets.
