Police searching for robbery, assault suspects

HARLINGEN — Two local police departments are looking for men who they say committed crimes over the weekend.

The men in are wanted by police in connection with to two different crimes, robbery and assault.

Harlingen police are looking for a Brownsville man they say assaulted a Harlingen woman.

Officers were called at 5:30 p.m. Friday to the 900 block of South Palm Court Drive where a 31-year-old woman said she was assaulted by her ex-husband, according to a police press release.

Police said further investigation revealed that a knife was used during the assault, and the suspect, later identified as Isaias Valdes, 35, had fled the area.

The woman later received treatment for minor injuries at a local hospital.

An arrest warrant for aggravated assault has been issued for Valdes. Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Valdes is encouraged to call the Harlingen Police Department at 956-216-5940 or the Harlingen Area Crime Stoppers at 956-425-TIPS (8477).

San Benito Police are looking for a man they say robbed Taco Jardin Restaurant Sunday morning.

Police said a man identified by surveillance video as San Benito resident Eric Gonzalez walked into the restaurant at 9:45 a.m. to purchase a soda.

Police said that when Gonzalez refused to pay for it, he assaulted the cashier and reached into the cash drawer and grabbed an unknown amount of bills.

Police said he then fled the area on foot into a nearby neighborhood.

Several patrons ran after the man and told police he entered the passenger side of an older black Ford Expedition. They did not get the license plate number.

Police said another patron followed in their vehicle and the Expedition was seen going toward Harlingen.

An arrest warrant for robbery has been issued for Gonzalez.
