SAN BENITO — The 11th annual “Noche De Ronda” Pre-Valentine benefit dance is scheduled Saturday at the Knights of Columbus Hall in San Benito.
Music for the event will be provided by The West Side Band, composed of several current and retired band directors. All net proceeds will go to benefit the San Benito-based Texas Conjunto Music Hall of Fame and Museum.
“The West Side Band generates quality music that is great for dancing and for listening,” said Rey Avila, president of the Texas Conjunto Music Hall of Fame and Museum.
“This music is considered musica orquestal Tejana or Tejano Orchestra music,” Avila said.
Eight years ago, the local Conjunto Hall of Fame adopted Conjunto Estrella, San Benito High School’s Conjunto student band. Since then, the organization has donated more than $5,000 in scholarships to deserving students. This year they will award scholarships to three students.
Raffles will be conducted during the intermission, thanks to area merchants who have donated items including gift cards, gift certificates and specialty products.
Tickets are now on sale at the Harlingen Chamber of Commerce at 311 E. Tyler, and the San Benito KC Hall, 826 E. Stenger, or at the door. Admission is $20 per person. Reservations for a table of eight are $160, and business tables are $200.
The Knights of Columbus Hall is located at 826 E. Stenger, San Benito. The event is scheduled from 8 p.m.-12 midnight. Doors open at 6:45 p.m.
The Texas Conjunto Music Hall of Fame and Museum is a non-profit, tax exempt organization dedicated to preserving documenting, archiving and displaying the history of Conjunto regional music.
