New logo and ad campaign to roll out over coming year

BROWNSVILLE — Brownsville South Padre Island International Airport has rebranded itself, something that hasn’t happened in about 10 years.

On Nov. 17, airport officials launched the “Let the Journey Take Flight” rebranding and ad campaign, meant to capture the essence of aviation history in Brownsville coupled with the importance of the new terminal set to open in 2018.

The campaign includes a new logo that replaces the airport’s full name with “BRO” — the International Air Transport Association’s official identifier for the facility.

The new brand also incorporates a graphic representing a vapor trail from a modern jet, in an upward trajectory to symbolize growth of the city and surrounding area, according to the airport.

“It is essential that the (airport) embraces a brand and slogan that is uplifting and symbolic of the direction of the city of Brownsville,” said Airport Director Bryant Walker, who led the rebranding process. “The slogan ‘Let the Journey Take Flight’ is indicative of the path set forth by our city leaders as we embrace the future.”

The new BRO brand will be rolled out over the coming year. It will feature a redesigned website, social media platforms, airport vehicles, employee attire and signs.

The new terminal will accommodate larger aircraft and double passenger capacity, according to the airport.
