CSL Plasma coming to Ed Carey location; $1.2 million renovation

HARLINGEN — The old Southern Careers Institute building on North Ed Carey Drive is being singled out for a new job.

CSL Plasma, which has three locations in the Rio Grande Valley, plans a $1.2 million renovation of the building at 603 N. Ed Carey Dr. It should be finished early next year.

“The new CSL Plasma facility will have 48 beds, new and return donor screening booths, employee offices, break room, ample parking, Wi-Fi capabilities and other amenities for donors and employees,” said Robert Mitchell, director of marketing and corporate communication for the plasma donor company.

Plasma donor centers pay clients for blood donations from which the plasma is extracted. CSL Plasma, one of the largest collectors of human plasma in the world, is based in Boca Raton, Florida.

It is a division of CSL Behring, plasma biotherapies company headquartered in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania. Plasma is used in therapies to treat coagulation disorders including hemophilia and von Willebrand disease, primary immune deficiencies, hereditary angioedema, inherited respiratory disease and neurological disorders.
