San Benito school officials say yes to track resurfacing

SAN BENITO — Pending a further look at the warranty portion of the contract, school leaders have voted yes to resurfacing the stadium track.

Over the years, the track has had its issues, even now lane eight of the 20-year-old track has been obsolete for a while.

Bobby Morrow Stadium itself is only about 10 years old.

But the dusty, old and purple track has been in existence there for almost 20 years as the stadium was built around it.

Due to safety issues, lane eight is no longer used, Athletic Coordinator Ramiro Partida said last week.

The lane is basically coming undone and is due for a resurfacing.

As soon as officials found out the track was in need of repair, the district went out for bids. The first bid, which is the one the district has chosen, would end up costing the district about $120,000. The second would have cost more than $200,000 and the third more than $120,000.
