Cameron County has placed an interactive American With Disabilities Act accessible sample ballot on its elections webpage.
Officials said all voters will be able to review voter-specific ballots for multiple elections.
The ballot is audio-enabled and multilingual. It is compatible with all major screen readers, tactile switches, closed captioning and sip and puff systems, the elections office said in a press release. It complies with Section 508 of the ADA and WCAG 2.0.
“ This is a significant step forward for Cameron County in making our elections fully accessible to everyone in our community,” Elections Administrator Remi Garza said.
“ The interactive and accessible sample ballot allows individuals to review their choices at their convenience. Voters can mark their choices in advance and use the printout as a guide in the voting both with or without assistance,” Garza said.
The software is hosted on the secure Microsoft Cloud for Government and is accessible from a computer, tablet or smartphone. Voters will be able to save, download or print their choices.
