Fall Litter Bash is set for Nov. 5

HARLINGEN — The city’s 2016 Fall Litter Bash will take out the trash Nov. 5, literally.

The Keep Harlingen Beautiful volunteer organization and the City of Harlingen are co-sponsoring the event at McKelvey Park.

Volunteers will gather there at 9:30 a.m. to form teams, and then disperse to targeted areas of the city to pick up and dispose of unsightly litter.

A picnic for volunteers will be held at McKelvey Park beginning at 11:45 a.m. after the litter pickup.

“It’s an exciting time for Harlingen to come together to try to get as much trash off our streets as possible,” Wayne Lowry, chair of Keep Harlingen Beautiful, said yesterday.

Lowry expects “hundreds of folks from many different organizations” to participate in the clean-up.

The first 400 volunteers to show up at McKelvey Park will be handed T-shirts.

Sponsors of the event are Boggus Ford, Valley Baptist Health System, the Rio Grande Valley Credit Union and Allegra Marketing, Design and Print.
