Search continues for missing swimmer

SOUTH PADRE ISLAND — The U.S. Coast Guard is still looking for a 22-year-old man who went missing off the coast of South Padre Island on Saturday morning.

Mohammed Alsubaie was reported swimming with his friends near Bridgeport Condominiums, according to a press release. A previous release mistakenly identified the man as Mohammad Abdullah and said he was 23.

“The coast guard is actively searching for this individual along with beach patrol, the police department, and the fire department, so there are plenty of federal, state and local agencies involved,” said Lt. Karl Alejandre. “This is our number one priority.”

An MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew was deployed by Sector Corpus Christi to help in the search.

Coast Guard Station South Padre Island sent a response boat crew.

Alsubaie was wearing yellow swim trucks at the time. His friends contacted the police after they were unable to locate him.

“If anyone happens to see this person, contact the police or Corpus Christi Command Center immediately,” Alejandre said.

The command center can be contacted at (361) 939-6393.
