Appeals court upholds La Feria man’s rape, bat beating conviction

LA FERIA — The Court of Appeals upheld the conviction of a La Feria man sentenced to 25 years in prison for aggravated sexual assault and assault.

In 2013 Rodolfo Delgado, 30, was found guilty of raping and beating a woman with a baseball bat.

According to the Cameron County District Attorney’s Office, the attack took place on the night of Aug. 23, 2012 and the woman ran to a neighbor’s home pleading for help. She was covered in blood and bruises.

Delgado was sentenced to 25 years for the sexual assault and 20 years for the assault. His sentence is being conserved concurrently.

On appeal he raised several issues including the jury charges and the impeachment of the victim.

The Court of Appeals overruled all of his issues and affirmed the conviction.
